SupelMIP™ Beta-agonist
- A class selective SPE sorbent for multi-residue extraction of beta-agonists in urine or tissue samplesBackground
Beta agonists are employed as feed additives in growth promotion of cattle. Their use is banned within Europe while in other countries (eg USA, South Africa, Mexico) they may be allowed through specific licenses but only for use at growth promoting doses. There are about 12 beta agonists in common use but their extraction is often difficult and time consuming, particularly from complex matrices such as muscle tissue and it is difficult to extract all beta agonists with only one method. This is however popssible with the SupelMIP Beta-agonist cartridge.
Features and applications
A broad spectrum of beta-agonists in biological samples can be extracted at extremely low limits of detection and quantification with the SupelMIP™ Beta-agonist product. The product is class selective for many beta-agonists e.g. brombuterol, clenbuterol, formoterol, isoxuprine, mapenterol, ractopamine, ritodrine, salbutamol, salmeterol, terbutaline, tulobuterol, zilpaterol and others.
Using the molecularly imprinted SPE, the extraction procedure is considerably simplified so that quantitation of beta-agonist levels in these types of sample is faster, more robust and ultimately lower cost. There is little or no loss of sensitivity in LC-MS/MS due to contamination by interferring compounds.
It is also possible to use the SupelMIP™ Beta-agonist cartridges in automated solid-phase extraction systems. Application notes for both HPLC and LC-MS/MS are available. It is recommended to use MS detection for results with forensic validity.
More information about SupelMIP™ Beta-agonist product can be found in the Product Bulletin.
Recovery, precision and accuracy are given together with chromatograms and SPE procedure in the Data Sheet. For further reading we also refer to the literature list below.
