SupelMIP™ Riboflavin
(Vitamin B2)
- A selective SPE sorbent for extraction of Riboflavin from aqueous samples.
Background
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is a water soluble vitamin and is essential for the human diet, being a component of flavin adenine mono- and dinucleotides (FMN and FAD). While riboflavin is relatively stable towards heat and acidic pH, it decomposes at higher pH and in the presence of light to lumiflavin, a stronger oxidative agent which contributes to the decomposition of vitamin C. In certain commercial food preparations, this photoreduction of riboflavin is responsible for the breakdown of the bitter iso-alpha acids in the presence of a sulphur source, leading to the well known "sun-struck" flavour of wine, champagne, milk and beer when exposed to sunlight. Methods to remove riboflavin selectively from complex matrices without otherwise affecting their composition are currently not available. The new SupelMIP™ Riboflavin material are useful both in analytical, preparative and process scale applications.
Features and applications
SupelMIP™ Riboflavin allows Riboflavin to be selectively extracted from solution with high recoveries (up to 85%) and without co-extracting other vitamins. The method allows fast and robust extraction of Riboflavin from aqueous samples at very low detection levels (ppb).
More information about SupelMIP™ Riboflavin product can be found in the Product Bulletin.
Recovery, precision and accuracy are given together with chromatograms and SPE procedure in the Data Sheet.
